International Horseradish Festival
If St. Louis is on your itinerary this weekend, Road Trips Foodies, consider scheduling a stop at the International Horseradish Festival.
The celebration of this under-used vegetable takes place Friday through Sunday (June 6 through 8, 2014) in Woodland Park, Pine Lake Road and Olivers Road, Collinsville, Illinois (which is 20 minutes east of St. Louis, Missouri).
A Bloody Mary Contest and a Horseradish Recipe Contest will have cooks from all around grating the fiery root into all sorts of edibles.
According to Wikipedia, horseradish (Armoracia rusticana, syn. Cochlearia armoracia) is a perennial plant of the Brassicaceae family (which also includes mustard, wasabi, broccoli, and cabbage).
