Seven Winds Kitchen
There’s nothing like really good peanut brittle. One place a Road Trips Foodie can pick up a box of this Southern treat on the road is Seven Winds Kitchen, 1011 County Road 222, Logan, Alabama (map).
The recipe goes back more than half a century. Berta Gammon loved to share her homemade peanut brittle with family and friends — “Bert’s Brittle”. By 1947, the confection, filled with fresh, crunchy peanuts, found their way into every holiday and birthday gift she gave.
In 1994, her daughters Jane Gammon and Frances Scruggs opened Seven Winds Kitchen and Gift Shop so they, too, could share their mother’s art of candy making and gift giving. (Mom is retired from day-to-day duties, but she is still a part of the business.)
Just roll a bit west of I-65 for some of this small-batch goodness, or pick up one of their other products: jams, jellies, relishes, pickles, cakes, cookies, muffins, sweet rolls or cheese hooies (cheddary disks).
