Thanksgiving Dinner on the Road?

Submitted by on November 12, 2012 – 9:17 pmNo Comment

With families far flung, sometimes it’s easier to have a gathering on the road at holiday time. Here are some ideas of what to do on Thanksgiving.

What about spending the weekend in wine country? This year, more than 150 wineries throughout the Willamette Valley of Oregon will open their doors November 23 through 25, 2012. You can taste new wines or older vintages from your favorite labels. Check out one of the new wineries and tasting rooms in the valley. Meet winemakers and sample from the barrel. Enjoy specialty food pairings and live music, all while savoring the region’s acclaimed Pinot noir, Pinot gris and more.

The South Willamette Wineries also are participating in the Thanksgiving Wine Trail weekend, as are members of the Southern Oregon Winery Association and the Columbia Gorge Winegrowers.

Or, maybe you’re gonna be in Indonesia on Thanksgiving? A traditional feast will be served between 6 and 10 p.m. November 22, 2012, at the Taksu Restaurant and Spa on Jalan Goutama Selatan, Ubud, Bali (map). Included on the menu is a house specialty: organic smoked turkey à la Betutu.

A Thanksgiving Day buffet will be served from noon until 8 p.m. November 22, 1012, at all 17 state resort park restaurants in Kentucky. There’ll be turkey and ham, and the dessert options include both pecan pie and pumpkin pie.

On the Left Coast for the holiday? Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 4 to 10 p.m. November 22, 2012, in the Hyatt Regency San Francisco (map).
