Catfish Festival
Fans of crispy Southern-fried catfish are heading to the 29th Annual Catfish Festival Labor Day Weekend in Kingsland, Georgia.
Reputed to be the largest three-day event in Southeast Georgia, the fest includes a parade, free concerts, arts and craft booths, 30 different food booths, antiques and collectibles, entertainment, children’s amusement area, a 5K run, a classic car, truck and tractor exhibition and the annual Lions Club Pancake Breakfast.
(Did I mention the Southern-fried catfish? It’s served with hush puppies, grits, coleslaw and — of course — sweetened iced tea.)
Insider tip: at this festival, all the items sold in arts and crafts booths must be handmade.
It all takes place on the four blocks of downtown Kingsland September 3 through 5, 2011.
Back in 1983, a committee formed to organize a small town Labor Day festival. They started with chicken dinners and fish fries to raise money to fund their little festival. Twenty-nine years later the small, one-day event has grown into Camden County’s largest fest. Click here for a video on the event.
