Brentwood Corn Festival
The 18th annual CornFest takes place in Brentwood, California, July 9-11, 2010. No, no! Not that Brentwood! There’s another one in the state’s Contra Costa County — half-way between Oakland and Stockton in northern California. This Brentwood has a Corn Festival each July, because, well, it’s a farming community (unlike its tony southern namesake). They grow corn, and sell it fresh throughout the San Francisco Bay area.
If you want a closer look at the agricultural underpinnings of the town, consider taking the “Taste of Brentwood Farm Tour”, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. August 21, 2010. Plan ahead, though, because only 100 tickets at $30 per person will be sold. That includes transportation (the tour starts at Liberty High School). Tickets are available from the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce.
The Brentwood area, once part of a Spanish land grant, had just 100 residents in 1882. Now, about 63,000 people call it home.
