North Carolina Watermelon Festival
The 34th annual Watermelon Festival takes place tomorrow (July 31, 2019) through Saturday (August 3, 2019), in downtown Murfreesboro, North Carolina.
The event kicks off at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow (July 31, 2019) with a Steamed Shrimp Dinner hosted by the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce (they’re serving until 7 p.m.). The festival food court opens at 6 p.m. that evening, and continues during festival hours through Saturday (August 3, 2019).
Free watermelon slices will be handed out at noon Friday (August 2, 2019) in the Show Place, where a discussion of “How to select and cut watermelons” begins at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Seed Spitting and Watermelon Eating Contests begin at 2 p.m. Saturday (August 3, 2019).
High point is always the Watermelon Parade, set to step off rain or shine at 10 a.. Saturday (August 3, 2019) along Main Street.
