Augsburg’s Plärrer
Thinking of visiting Germany, Road Trips Foodies? What about a stop at the Plärrer (Beer Festival and Fun Fair). It takes place April 5 through 19, 2015, at the Plärrergelände in Augsburg, Germany.
This is a beer festival combined with a fun fair with amusements and rides. The name — Plärrer — derives from the “Geplärre” (German for ‘blubbering’) of the visitors (must have something to do with all the beer consumed).
In his poem “Das Plärrerlied” (“The Plärrer Song”), Augsburg-born author Bertolt Brecht celebrates the event which now looks back on a 1000-year old tradition.
Can’t make it across the pond in April for the Osterplärrer? The whole festival repeats itself August 28 through September 13, 2015, as the Herbstplärrer.
