Fête de la Vanille
When considering a flavoring, it’s always good to go to the source. The Vanilla Festival in the village of Mu, New Caledonia, celebrates a local product: the vanilla bean.
It’s set for next weekend — October 17, 18 and 19, 2014. On the schedule are tastings, visits to vanilla farms, tourist activities, a festival atmosphere and home stays with local residents. It’s all sponsored by the Lifou Tourism Association.
The Vanilla Festival will be held in the South of Lifou, on the Ahmelewedr Bay in Mu — the place where the first vanilla cuttings were brought to New Caledonia by the first missionaries.
Also planned are traditional dances, musical performances, a craft market, floristry workshops, and an introduction to traditional cuisine.
New Caledonia is an island nation off the coast of Australia.
