Chickpea Stew in Spain
A celebration of stew? Well, why not? On February 23, 2014, the town of Lalín, Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain, turns its thoughts to stews typical of the region — such as chickpea (pictured, at left).
It’s a celebration with roots back to 1969.
The Feria del Cocido starts with a pregón (opening speech) and continues with parades featuring brass bands and floats, band performances, street entertainment and a “popular meal” where people eat typical stew.
According to Spanish tourism officials, it’s “one of the quintessential gastronomic fairs in inland Galicia”.
