voltaggio_michaelDelicious surprises are promised for this year’s SAVOR the Central Coast, set for September 26 through 29, 2013, in San Luis Obispo County, California (map).

From a new celebrity chef, expanded adventure tours and original evening events to venues that celebrate the best of the California Central Coast lifestyle, this year’s theme “Time to Play” will be brought to life throughout the four day wine and food festival presented by Sunset magazine and Visit San Luis Obispo County.

This year’s celebrity chef headliner is Michael Voltaggio (pictured), chef/owner of Los Angeles’ ink and ink.sack. Adventure tours, have been expanded into two days, taking place September 26 and 27. Tours range from a behind-the-scenes tour of Hearst Castle, wine blending classes and touring an abalone farm to planting vines at a vineyard, a cowboy adventure and golfing on the beach.

One new event is Sunset on the Sand in Pismo Beach on September 28, 2013, where the pages of the magazine will “come to life” with demonstrations on how to make a cocktail with herbs from your garden, followed by farm-to-table cuisine celebrating the bounty of the region and served at communal tables and paired with vintages selected by the magazine’s wine editor.

Another is Sunset in the Vineyard at Vina Robles, featuring food, wine and live music in a brand-new amphitheater. Also scheduled are presentations by regional chefs and purveyors.

The Main Event at Santa Margarita Ranch will take place September 28 and 29. It features guest chefs, winemakers, farmers, artisan food purveyors and the sounds of local bands in the Estrada Gardens.
