Founders’ Feast in Nova Scotia
Life on the colonial frontier in Nova Scotia, Canada, may have been challenging three centuries ago, but the elite seldom skimped when it came to a fine feast.
Part of Louisbourg300 — a grand months-long fête marking the 300th anniversary of the founding of Île Royale (known today as Cape Breton Island) and its capital, Louisbourg — Founders’ Feast is a culinary event to be held within the walls of the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site on September 21, 2013.
Road Trips Foodies can partake in a full course 18th century gourmet dining experience, paired with select wines inspired by the Louisbourg Governor’s own cellar and then step into the King’s Chapel for a concert: LouisRocks! at Founders’ Feast with a Musical Tribute to Women featuring Dawn & Margie Beaton, Go Baroque, Nicole LeBlanc, Michelle Deveau and Shauntay Grant.
Guests will be able to take the experience home with the purchase of a culinary history book full of recipes, stories and vignettes about cooking à la française, 18th-century style.
Tickets (available online) are $100.
