Mushroom Festival
Did you know that Mesick, Michigan (map), claims the title of “Mushroom Capital of the United States”? The mushroom in question is, of course, the elusive morel mushroom.
The town’s 54th annual Mushroom Festival, set for May 10 through 12, 2013, includes a contest to see who can find the biggest ‘shroom in the woods. (You can get a Mushroom Pickers Kit for $6 at the festival office.)
There’s lots of fun on the schedule, including a parade, carnival rides, games, 5K run/walk and a softball tourney. Road Trips Foodies also can indulge in BBQ chicken, baked goods, pasties, a fish dinner and the usual fair goodies — and wash it all down in the beer tent.
