Festival of Morels and Music
It’s called the “Simply Music, Simply Mushrooms Morel Festival” and, well, that’s what there will be at the Bill Monroe Memorial Bluegrass Park and Campground in Bean Blossom (map), just north of Nashville, Indiana, on the weekend of April 19 and 20, 2013.
It’s a two-day celebration of the elusive morel, with classes for ‘shroom hunters of all levels of experience and ages plus guided hunts. Oh, and, of course, there’s music, much of it the bluegrass variety. Tickets are $45, but if you want to camp — make a separate reservation for that here.
It’s said that Brown County has some of the finest morel hunting in the enire Midwest. Over 90% of the entire county is covered in forest, making it the least densely populated county in the state of Indiana. With parts of the Hoosier National Forest, Morgan Monroe Forestry, the entire Brown County State Park and Yellowwood State Forest, there is no shortage of hiking trails and land to cover while hunting for morels.
There will be several morel hunting apparel, equipment and supplies will be available for sale.
Morel hunting experts will give insight on morel habitats, tree identification, signs to point you to morels, backpacking basics, outdoor ethics, map reading and geo-caching.
Families are welcome — there will be classes on hunting morels geared for children.
