Oktoberfest in Munich
Pack up your lederhosen and dirndls and head to the 179th Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. This year’s dates are September 22 through October 7, 2012.
This is the original, Road Trips Foodies. There are 14 beer tents, and (truth be told) many are sold out already for prime time. Yes, you need to buy admission in advance if you have your heart set on a particular tent. If you’re an Oktoberfest newbie, plan to arrive at 10 a.m. weekdays (9 a.m. weekends) and take your chances.
Here’s just a sampling: Feisinger’s Kas- und Weinstub’n also serves cheese and wine. Café Mohrenkopf is the only café-tent with its own bakery at the Oktoberfest. Augustiner-Festhalle is considered especially family-friendly. In fact, on both Tuesdays during the fest there is a “kids day” with especially low prices. (And you thought there was only beer at the Oktoberfest!)
