Okinawan Festival
If your Labor Day weekend plans find you in Honolulu, Hawaii, Road Trips Foodies, consider stopping by the 30th annual Okinawan Festival in Kapiolani Park (map).
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 1 and 2, 2012, with an Okinawan Festival Bon Dance scheduled from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. September 2.
New on the menu this year are chocolate-dipped andagi and chicken nishime. Returning favorites include pig’s feet soup, yakisoba, champuru (with shoyu pork) and the andadog (an Okinawan version of the corn dog: a hot dog on a stick that is dipped into andagi batter and deep-fried).
In addition to traditional Okinawan food, there’s music and dance typical of this Japanese prefecture. The event is sponsored by the Hawaii United Okinawa Association. Stop by and share some “Uchinanchu Aloha”.
