Karlštejn Wine Festival
How about a trip back in time, Road Trips Foodies? The Wine Festival at Karlštejn (about an hour’s drive from Prague, Czech Republic) promises jousting tournaments, performances by magicians and other entertainments typical of Medieval Europe.
Thisyear’s dates are September 29 through October 1, 2012.
Each day includes a procession from the vineyards to the Karlštejn Castle (map), with the road lined with stalls selling period handicrafts.
The castle itself, High Gothic in style, was founded in 1348. It was built by Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV (portrayed in the photograph) as a place for safekeeping of the royal treasures, especially Charles’s collection of holy relics and the coronation jewels of the Roman Empire.
