There’s a two-fer on the second weekend of January in Traverse City, Michigan (map).
The 17th annual Downtown Chili Cookoff takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. January 14, 2012, in the Park Place Dome, Traverse City. Area restaurants compete for top honors in eight categories: 1-,2- and 3-Alarm, White, Seafood, No Bean, Ethnic and Vegetarian.
Just as that tasty fundraiser ends, the third annual Beer and Boards Festival begins at Shanty Creek Resort Schuss Mountain. It’s from 3 to 5 p.m. January 14, 2012, in the Bellaire Ballroom, Summit Village, and features Michigan craft brewers including Short’s Brewing Company. (Here’s a video from last year.)
