Pumpkins Aren’t Just for Jack-O’-Lanterns
Now that the leaves have turned, it’s officially fall in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and The Clifton Inn, 1296 Clifton Inn Drive Charlottesville, Virginia, is saluting the autumn harvest with a culinary celebration of the great pumpkin on October 25, 2011, Road Trips Foodies.
With four pumpkin-focused courses, chef Tucker Yoder will take the ubiquitous orange fruit beyond its common uses as a jack-o’-lantern, a pie, or in a host of other baked goods and transform the gourd-like squash into dishes ranging from a Cushaw Pumpkin “Risotto” to Cinderella Pumpkin Custard.
Participants can choose from Scotch Compressed Jarrahdale Pumpkin with Pears, Chickweed and Arugula; Cushaw Pumpkin “Risotto” with Chestnuts, Monkfish and Dried Black Olives; Caramelized Musque De Provence Pumpkin with Sorghum Glazed Pork Belly, Herbed Wheatberries and Pickled Wild Mushrooms; Cinderella Pumpkin Custard with Candied Pecans, Graham Cracker Ice Cream and Sherried Raisins.
The Pumpkin Dinner at Clifton is $58 per person (excluding tax, tip and wine). Seatings begin at 6 p.m. October 25.
