In Newport on October 30?
French chef, author, and TV personality Jacques Pépin will visit the Newport Mansions Store on Bannister’s Wharf, Newport, Rhode Island, on October 30, 2011, to promote his newly-released cookbook, Essential Pépin: More Than 700 All-Time Favorites From My Life in Food.
Pépin will be at the store from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a book signing and wine sampling. The public is invited to come and meet the chef, who will personally sign copies of the book that are purchased there, enjoy a glass of wine, and perhaps pick up a cooking tip or two.
In a book that celebrates his life in cooking, the chef winnows his favorite recipes from the thousands he has created, updating and streamlining them. They include Onion Soup Lyonnaise-Style, which Jacques enjoyed as a young chef while bar-crawling in Paris; Linguine with Clam Sauce and Vegetables, a frequent dinner chez Jacques; Five-Peppercorn Steak, his spin on a bistro classic; Mémé’s Apple Tart, which his mother made every day in her Lyon restaurant; and Warm Chocolate Fondue Soufflé, part cake, part pudding, part soufflé, and pure bliss.
Essential Pépin spans the many styles of Jacques’s cooking: homey country French, haute cuisine, fast food Jacques-style, and fresh contemporary American dishes. The book is published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
The Newport Mansions Store on Bannister’s Wharf is operated by and supports the mission of The Preservation Society of Newport County, a non-profit organization accredited by the American Association of Museums and dedicated to preserving and interpreting the area’s historic architecture, landscapes and decorative arts.
