Ludlow Food Festival
The Food Festival in Ludlow, Shropshire, England, set for the weekend of September 9 through 11, 2011, has all the usual components, with one key difference: the Sausage Trail. For this most amazing foodie event, one buys a ticket for £3.50 then makes the rounds of the town’s butcher shops between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on September 10.
The price includes sausage in a bread roll from the Festival Sausage Stall by the castle on completion of the trail, where voting forms also are available. That’s because Ludlow’s independent butchers, who are each making their own recipes for the Festival Sausage of the Year, are offering tastes to the 2000 trail ticket holders, who will grade each sample on a ten-point scale.
The sausage with the most points wins the ‘People’s Choice’ award, with an ‘Experts’ Choice’ award to be judged by a special panel at 4 p.m. at the Festival Sausage Stall.
During all three days, the festival inside Ludlow Castle will feature more than 130 small independent food and drink producers from the Marches, the England-Wales border country.
The Eckington Manor Cookery School will be offering “knife skills” short courses during the festival (the schedule is online).
