Johnny Appleseed Festival

Submitted by on September 3, 2011 – 12:10 amOne Comment

Yes, Road Trips Foodies, there really was a Johnny Appleseed, who roamed the midwest in the early days of the republic, planting apple trees. His real name was John Chapman, and he’s buried in Fort Wayne, Indiana — so where better to celebrate the folk hero!

The 37th annual Johnny Appleseed Festival takes place September 17 and 18, 2011, in (where else?) Johnny Appleseed Park, 5800 Harry Baals Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Look for plenty of apples and fresh apple cider, of course, but don’t miss the honey. Producers from Indiana, Michigan and Ohio will be on hand with everything (and anything) made of honey. In the “trappers and traders” area, life as it was in the early decades of the 1800s will be demonstrated. Nearby is a Civil War Encampment.
