Wiener Wiesn? Vienna’s Answer to the Oktoberfest!

Submitted by on June 30, 2011 – 12:21 amNo Comment

Vienna’s answer to the Oktoberfest makes its debut in Prater Park, and promises to overflow with beer, wine and music.

The Wiener Wiesn will put four giant marquees on the Kaiserwiese meadow, directly in front of the Giant Ferris Wheel in the Austrian capital city’s Prater Park.

In addition to the VIP Kaiserzelt marquee and two traditional beer tents accommodating 1,600 and 2,000 guests each, there is a Wiener Weinzelt with a wine tavern atmosphere. The new event will have a strong Austrian flavor, with Wiener Schnitzel, sausage, roast pork and crispy pork knuckle on the menu. The beer, too, comes from Austria.

Inside the marquees, the soundtrack to the festival includes Schlager pop, traditional Schrammel music and Volksmusik from Austria and abroad – headline acts include Andy Borg, die Edlseer, die Monroes and Neuwirth & die Extremschrammeln. Admission to the four marquees is only permitted with a valid table reservation, but access to the festival site is free of charge.

It all takes place in Vienna’s second district from September 23 through October 2, 2011.
