Taste of Bloomington
It’s a college town, but it’s also a foodie town. Where? Bloomington, Indiana — home of Indiana University and also the location for Taste of Bloomington, to be held from 3 to 11 p.m. June 18, 2011.
Bringing together dozens of the town’s best restaurants, local wineries and breweries (plus, of course, live musical entertainment), the 29th annual Taste takes place at Showers Common (Seventh and Morton streets, next door to the Bloomington City Hall). Admission prices are $6 per person (children younger than 12 are free). All food items will be priced at $3 or less. There’s a complete list of participating restaurants online.
Your Road Trips Foodie‘s favorite part is the annual waiter/waitress race. It pits the best of Bloomington’s restaurant service professionals against one another for a year’s worth of bragging rights. Each team of servers competes to see who can complete the obstacle course quickly and without spilling the beverage they’re carrying. The first team to complete the task and pop the cork on their bottle of champagne wins. This year, the race starts at 4 p.m. — just an hour after the Taste opens.
A portion of the proceeds from Taste of Bloomington will benefit the Hoosier Hills Food Bank and the Community Kitchen of Monroe County.
