Did you know, Road Trips Foodies, that the Gulf of Mali Ston (Malostonski Zaljev) has been noted for its mussel and oyster-growing farms since Roman times? The oysters from Ston (ostrea edulis), have made this region of Croatia (54 kilometers northwest of Dubrovnik) world-famous.

It’s said that oysters are most delicious in March, when St. Joseph’s Day in celebrated in Roman Catholic tradition. Hence, the Festival of Oysters, featuring (no surprise) oysters and dishes made with oysters. You can taste the freshly opened oysters at the restaurants in Ston and Mali Ston on March 19, 2011. And, the shell growers from Mali Ston will offer their culinary delicacy on Stradun in Dubrovnik on March 20th.
