Taste of St. Louis
Food, art, music and culture combine at the annual Taste of St. Louis, set for October 2-4, 2009, at the Soldier’s Memorial downtown, 12th and Market streets, St. Louis, Missouri. One unique feature is Sauce magazine‘s “Restaurant Row” — $2 samples from no less than 40 local restaurants! Another is the Saint Louis Bread Company’s Sandwich Showdown. (Road Trip Foodies who aren’t from St. Louis know this chain better as Panera Bread Company: who woulda guessed?) For the showdown, members of the public contribute their “most creative, original” sandwich recipes. The two finalists duke it out at the Taste to determine the winner — which is then featured on the menu of the Bread Company’s cafés! Then, there’s the Top Chef competition: six of the city’s best (as selected by popular vote) compete at the Taste for top honors.
Other highlights: the International Village (sort of a cultural travel show), Charter Marketplace (“tasteful variety” to take home), Tasty Band Competition (among 20 different bands) and the Art Wars: artists create a complete work of art, start to finish, during the three days of the Taste. Oh — and admission is free. (PS – Gooey Louie will be there!)
