Convivial Wine Song Festival in Hungary
Although a wine tasting is kind of obligatory for a Road Trip Foodie intent on wine to stop at a wine fest, the European Convivial Wine Song Festival in Pécs, Hungary, offers so much more. Like a “beauty contest” for wine bottles and (of course) the headline entertainment: male choruses from several countries performing “convivial wine songs” — separately and together (in the finale on the town square). The whole shebang runs September 25-27, 2009.
Events on the last day, September 27, start at 10:30 a.m., with individual concerts by the participanting choirs on the Villány-Siklós Wine Road in Nagyharsány, Villány, Palkonya, Turony, Máriagy?d, Harkány. The Feast of Wine and Grapes begins at 3 p.m. on the Promenade Square in Pécs, an old university town that has been hosting this festival for male choruses, vocal ensembles and soloists every year since 1993. The festival’s host ensemble is the Bartók Béla Male Chorus.
