New Orleans Wine & Food Experience May 19-23, 2009

The 18th annual New Orleans Wine & Food Experience (NOWFE) brings together the best in local food with over 1000 wines, May 19 – 23, 2009. Inspired by world-class, local ingredients and culinary talent, NOWFE will present wine dinners, food and wine seminars, and many special events during its five-day extravaganza.

On May 20, more than 30 chefs from some of New Orleans’ most celebrated restaurants will create five-course dinners paired with many of the world’s best wines at wine dinners around the New Orleans area (for a full listing of participating restaurants and wineries please visit , followed by the newest event, FEASTiVAL – featuring wine notables and celebrity chefs on May 21. The Grand Tastings (May 22 and 23), featuring 75 New Orleans restaurants and over 1000 vintages, will bring the extravaganza to a close. Specialized and intimate wine and food seminars will take place throughout the week, as well.

Featured food seminars include:

Pastry & Port Paired to Perfection: With New Orleans’ leading epicurean lady, Lorin Gaudin (Food Editor & Reporter for ABC26) at the helm, premium ports will be paired with heavenly creations from celebrated local Pastry Chefs, Kristyne Bouley (Herbsaint & Cochon), Simone Fleming (Ritz-Carlton New Orleans), Shun Li (The Windsor Court Hotel), New Orleans Ice Cream Company and Mary Sonnier (Host of “The Chef Show”.)

Table for Two, S’il Vous Plaît: Local expert foodie, Tom Fitzmorris, will explore the hot trend of Bistro French cuisine with our local Chefs Aaron Burgau (Patios), Steven McHugh (Lüke), Anton Schultis (Bistro Daisy), and Ryan Hughes (Café Degas) while you savor fantastic French wines.

Farm Fresh with Chef John Besh: John will show how to go green with ingredients that are freshly picked from his sustainable garden, and attendees will hear from leading experts on the latest in green and sustainable winemaking trends.

Featured wine seminars and special events include:

WOW! Women on Wine: Hear from some of the world’s leading women winemakers, and experience the culinary styles of two of New Orleans’ leading ladies: renowned Chef and James Beard Award Winner, Susan Spicer (Bayona) and Food and Wine’s Top 10 Best New Chef in America for 2008, Sue Zemanick (Gautreau’s).

Bubbles & Bites: We’ll pop the cork on some fabulous Champagne, while Ian Schnoeblen, Executive Chef/Co-Owner of Iris, and one of Food and Wine’s 10 Best New Chefs in America for 2007, tempts your taste buds! Moderated by: Ziggy “The Wine Gal” Eschliman.

Party Like It’s 1999: Explore Napa Cabs from the 1999 vintage, paired with epicurean delights from legendary local restaurateur, Dickie Brennan, and the Executive Chef of Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse, Jack Martinez. Moderated by: Ziggy “The Wine Gal” Eschliman. “Discover Wine with Robert Mondavi” tour: Featuring wines from Robert Mondavi Private Selection and Robert Mondavi Winery portfolios, the tour provides an interactive experience that educates visitors about food, wine and entertaining. Between the essence bar and tasting stations, and the informative and friendly hosts, you’ll leave the Discover Wine experience with a greater sense of knowledge and confidence.

NOWFE’s wine seminar series will inform, inspire and challenge the palate of both the novice and expert connoisseur, with in-depth information from leading experts in the wine world. “In addition to the educational aspect of NOWFE, we strive to provide exciting and entertaining events, including VINOLA, our premium wine tasting event added two years ago,” says Godbold. Riedel will sponsor VINOLA and attendees will take home a Riedel glass as a special gift. Returning again, the Krewe of Cork—a Mardi Gras style group of wine lovers who gather to celebrate wine, food and fun—will parade during the Royal Street Stroll.
