ELevated Ideas in Cuisine
No, that’s not a misprint in the headline, Road Trips Foodies. The new restaurant to be launched July 7, 2011, by Phillip Foss (pictured) of Chicago’s Meatyballs Mobile food truck is called ELevated Ideas in Cuisine (or EL for short). (It’s a riff on the local nickname — the el — for the elevated rapid transit system in the Windy City.)
The restaurant will feature tasting menus only, showcasing Chef Foss’ distinctive cuisine, and is intended to be a fine balance between classic culinary and Foss’ rebELlious approach to food.
It’s certainly not your usual dining destination. EL is located on a dead end street on the edge of the Pilsen neighborhood at 2419 West 14th Street, Chicago, Illinois. It’s only got six chairs and is BYOB.
From Europe to Brazil to Israel and finally Chicago by way of New York City, Chef Foss’ culinary journey has been seasoned by his lighthearted attitude towards life and innovative approach to cooking. Fresh off the heels of being named one of CHOW.com’s “Most Innovative Chefs of 2011,” Chef Foss continues to ELevate cuisine.
Reservations are now being accepted via email only. Initially, EL will be open just three days a week (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) with just one seating at 6 p.m. Chef Foss notes, “As the concept develops, and our team grows, expanded hours will be forthcoming.” Check the developing menu and the latest news at The Pickled Tongue blog.
