The festival known as Oktoberfest originated October 12, 1810, in Munich, Germany, in celebration of the marriage of the crown prince of Bavaria (who later became King Louis I) to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. It’s a popular celebration these days around the world (especially wherever there are Germans or German descendants).
