Maple Sugar Festival, American Indian Style
Native Americans had been producing maple syrup centuries before Europeans arrived on the North American continent. Road Trips Foodies who are curious about how they distilled the sweet might want to head on over to the Maple Sugar Festival at the Institute for American Indian Studies, 38 Curtis Road, Washington, Connecticut.
It’s set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 14, 2020.
This festival celebrates maple sugar with demonstrations by Jeff and Judy Kalin, of Primitive Technology, Inc., of the traditional technique of collecting sap and boiling it down into syrup. Road Trips Foodies can enjoy pancakes topped with syrup, coffee, and orange juice while learning about the importance of maple syrup to local Native American cultures.
