Delcambre Shrimp Festival
The annual Shrimp Festival will be held August 14 through 18, 2019, at the Delcambre Shrimp Festival Grounds, 611 South Richard Street, Delcambre, Louisiana.
Held on the third weekend of August, the Delcambre Shrimp Festival honors the shrimping industry with events including a shrimp cook-off, queens pageants, fais-do-dos, carnival rides, boat parade and a food court.
Road Trips Foodies should look for signature shrimp dishes such as boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, shrimp sauce piquante, and shrimp salad. Each and every shrimp dish consumed at the festival is prepared by volunteer members of the festival association.
If you’re not in the mood for shrimp, the festival also offers a variety of other “festival” foods, cold beer, cold drinks, and water.
In 1950, the Delcambre Shrimp Festival was born as a project to raise funds for the Delcambre Fire Department. The early days of the festival were known as the Iberia Parish Shrimp Festival and Agricultural fair. The name of the festival was officially changed to the Delcambre Shrimp Festival in 1974.
The town of Delcambre, Louisiana, located about 20 miles southwest of Lafayette, is home to one of the area’s most productive shrimp fleets.
