Headed to the Lone Star State?
This is the 61st year for what’s said to be the world’s largest rattlesnake roundup, and it takes place this weekend (March 8, 9 and 10, 2019) in the Nolan County Coliseum, 220 Coliseum Drive, Sweetwater, Texas.
There’s a parade, a carnival, a knife and coin show, a guided hunt, and a dance, but what Road Trips Foodies are interested takes place Saturday (March 9) in Newman Park (next to the coliseum).
Yes: it’s “the world’s largest Rattlesnake Roundup Cook Off”, a Lone Star Barbecue Association sanctioned event. There’ll be brisket, ribs, chicken, chili — and rattlesnake. (More than 4,600 were “rounded up” last year, and, it’s said, only two “got loose on the floor”).
It’s all sponsored by the Sweetwater Jaycees.
