Edible Encounters: Foraging & Gin Tasting Dinner
There’s a new reason for Road Trips Foodies to consider heading to the United Kingdom’s Channel Islands for the Guernsey Heritage Festival, set for April 19 through May 10, 2019. This year’s theme is “Guernsey Encounters Throughout the Ages”, and will delve into the island’s history from 8000 BCE to the modern day
A highlighted event is “Edible Encounters: Foraging & Gin Tasting Dinner” at Guernsey’s “gin hotel” (the Bella Luce, La Fosse, St. Martins), which offers the chance to discover the island’s homegrown produce, and learn how local ingredients have been used over the generations.
Foragers will also enjoy a gin tasting session in the hotel’s cellar, where its Wheadon’s Gin is distilled. A three-course dinner in the hotel’s restaurant will complete the evening. Edible Encounters takes place April 19 and 26, 2019.
Other highlights include a walking tour looking at the island’s volcanic past, and encounters with Guernsey’s famous rare breed of Golden Goats, and a two-hour kayak excursion to the wreck of MV Prosperity to hear about the tragic story of the merchant vessel, which sank in stormy seas in 1974.
