If You’re Traveling Through Chicago This Month
Pop-up shops are perfect for seasonal fare. The Winter Wonder shop in theWit Hotel, 201 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois offers holiday sweets masterminded by theWit’s Executive Pastry Chef, Toni Roberts.
The pop-up is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Edible Ice-Skating Holiday Gingerbread Village is made with gingerbread, house rice crispy treats, chocolate, macarons, and sugar work. It’s decorated with Peanut Butter Penguins ($10) donning a dark chocolate coat and creamy peanut butter filling; and individually hand carved and molded Passion Fruit Coconut Polar Bears ($15) with Valrhona Passionfruit Inspiration chocolate, a fluffy coconut coat and fruit chew scarf. These characters join meringue snowmen in the ice-skating scene displayed in the hotel lobby and are available for purchase at the Winter Wonder Pop-Up Shop.
Chef Roberts is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. She received a Jean Banchet Award for Culinary Excellence for Rising Star Pastry Chef, won the Best Dessert Menu award by Pastryscoop.com, and had her dessert selected by TimeOut Chicago as one of the “100 Best We Ate This Year.”
