Headed to Australia? Check Out Festival 21
As in the United States, the majority of the Australian population is overweight or obese. At the same time, 19 in 20 Australians don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables to be at their healthiest.
The start of a solution, perhaps: Festival21 is “a massive, grass-roots celebration of food, culture, and future” taking place February 1 and 2, 2019, at the Meat Market in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The schedule includes both ticketed and non-ticketed events.
Each session addresses issues of climate change, social inclusion, and population health through different lenses, with different solutions. Each features international and local thought-leaders from health, environmental science, design, advocacy, social enterprise, policy, agriculture, hospitality, and the arts.
Tickets are required for the plenary sessions (February 1 and 2) but not for the workshop, the forum or the source (taking place February 2). Topics are wide-ranging, from “What Should I Eat?” to “Composting 101” to “Breaking Bread with Neighbors”. Speaker bios are online.
Road Trips Foodies considering a trip Down Under might find this a “must attend” event.
