A Civil War Era Feast in a Presidential Site

Submitted by on November 4, 2018 – 8:43 amNo Comment

President Benjamin Harrison Site, Indianapolis, IndianaStep back in time for a Civil War era dinner “with” General Benjamin Harrison and his officers as they share stories of service to the Union during a banquet in the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, 1230 North Delaware Street, Indianapolis, Indiana.

The historic reenactment (with food) takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. November 14, 2018. Tickets are available online at $89.95. Sales end at 6 p.m. November 7, 2018.

The evening begins with conversation, hors d’oeuvres, and wine in the visitors’ center. Guests will next enter the Harrison family home through the grand entrance, tour the first floor and then assemble in the Library, where General Harrison “invites” you to join him for dinner.

To come up with the menu, staff researched food during the Civil War era, and will feature Harrison family recipes, and a dessert by the 23rd president’s White House Chef, Laura ‘Dolly’ Johnson.

There’s a magazine article about one of these Civil War dinners from 2017 here.
