A 52-Foot-Tall Pineapple? Why Not?
Back in the very early 1970s, somebody thought it was a good idea to build a 52-foot-tall pineapple along Nambour Connection Road, Woombye, Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia.
Also known as the Sunshine Plantation, the Big Pineapple was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 2009.
Of course, there’s also a copy-cat pineapple across the Indian Ocean. This one — two feet taller than the original — is in Bathhurst, South Africa. It’s an homage to the Eastern Cape pineapple industry.
