Middle Eastern Food in the Middle West
OK, Road Trips Foodies: if you like pita bread and hummus and lamb shanks, here’s where you need to point your car this weekend.
The annual St. George Festival takes place Friday (September 21, 2019) through Sunday (September 23, 2018) at St. George Orthodox Christian Church, 10748 East 116th Street, Fishers, Indiana.
Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
The menu is eclectic, but the emphasis is on foods representing the heritage of the church members. (Insider tip: share a sampler plate from the pita booth — gyro, kafta, and chicken shawarma.) Of course there’ll be plenty of baklava and other tasty desserts (how about deep-fried anise dough dipped in syrup?)
Parking at the church is only for those with handicap hangtags. Everybody else should head to Journey Lutheran Ministries, 10401 East 116th Street, Fishers, Indiana (cost is $5).
