Wisconsin Cheese Days
For one thing, Cheese Days is the only time you can see a parade led by Brown Swiss Cows. Then again, that’s not the only unique facet of the dairy celebration to be held September 14, 15, ad 16, 2018, in Monroe, Green County, Wisconsin.
The biggest question always is: WHY IS THE CHEESE CURD LINE SO LONG? Here’s the official answer: “These curds are hand-breaded by humans who seriously are doing their best to churn them out as quickly as possible. It is a very labor-intensive process. Please be aware that there is one line to buy tickets, and another line to get the curds. If the ticket line looks short, buy tickets ahead of time and use them later.”
All sorts of entertainment is planned on the main stage including yodeling, polka dancing, and Swiss singing (if you hadn’t guessed already, Green County has a long cheese-making history that started with Swiss immigrants).
There are two parades: a children’s parade stepping off at 5 p.m. September 14, and the “big one” commencing about 1 p.m. September 16.
Dairy farm tours take place September 15. And, of course there’s a cow milking contest.
Two editions of the Barn Quilt Tour take place, one at 11 a.m. September 14 and the second at 11 a.m. September 15.
