Taste of Chicago

Taste of Chicago, IllinoisYour Road Trips Foodie visited her first Taste of Chicago when it was a “tiny” event. Now in its 38th year, it’s HUGE and definitely something not to be missed.

As always, there’s free admission to Grant Park (just east of the Loop) July 11 through 15, 2018. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

But, you say, if it’s free — how do you get to sample the goodies? Food and beverage tickets are sold on site in strips of 14 tickets for $10 (includes $3 charge for Taste amenities). Smaller “Taste of” portions” are available for 1-6 tickets.

Check the online listing for who’s serving: everybody from Arun’s Thai Restaurant to Yum Dum. In addition to the “five-day restaurants”, there’ll be pop-ups and food trucks.

All sorts of cooking demonstrations are planned in the Taste Kitchen, and there’ll be all kinds of music.

Do keep in mind that this is a daytime OUTDOOR event in the heat of a Midwestern summer. Be sure you’ve packed sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and, if you’re among the fashionable, a parasol.
