Gravy Wrestling in Lancashire, England
The World Gravy Wrestling Championships will be held at 1 p.m. August 28, 2017, at the Rose ‘n Bowl, 264 Newchurch Road, Rossendale / Stacksteads, England.
Without a doubt, Road Trips Foodies, this is one of the World’s craziest “culinary” competitions: a wild and wacky wrestling competition in a pool full of Lancashire Gravy. According to a report by the BBC, Andy Holt, who makes the gravy at his black pudding factory, said he had to change the recipe because the original attracted swarms of wasps to contestants.
Contestants must wrestle in the gravy for two minutes, Points are scored for fancy dress, comedy effect, entertainment and (oh! yes) wrestling ability. All the contestants are raising money for charity, including the East Lancashire Hospice.
Food and drink will be served all day and the fire brigade will be there to wash down wrestlers between bouts.
