Nappanee Apple Festival, IndianaHere’s one way to differentiate an apple festival: bake an enormous apple pie.

The Nappanee Apple Festival in northern Indiana is home to the state’s largest apple pie: seven feet in diameter and weighing about 600 pounds (it takes eight people to remove it from the oven).

Road Trips Foodies can celebrate apples (and maybe taste a piece of the pie) between September 14 and 17, 2017, in downtown Nappanee (centered on the intersection of of U.S. 6 and State Road 19).

The 42nd annual fest opens at 5 p.m. September 14 and ends at 6 p.m. September 17, 2017. There are two stages of entertainment, more than 150 exhibitors, carnival rides, a parade with military aircraft fly-over, Miss Apple Blossom scholarship pageant, cornhole tournament, 5K road run, apple baking contest, garden tractor pull, kids and adult pedal pull contests, apple peeling and pie-eating contests, and many more activities.

Of course there will be plenty of apple pie, apple fritters, apple dumplings, apple turnovers, apple fry pies, apple bread, applesauce, apple cider and apple butter.
