North American Halal Food Fest to be in Toronto
The Halal Food Fest (HFFTO), set for July 15 and 16, 2017, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is the largest halal food festival in North America.
It takes place for the fifth year in the The International Centre, Entrance 5, 6900 Airport Road, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Representing cuisines from around the world, the fest features more than 100 of the Toronto area’s halal restaurants, bakeries, specialty stores, and manufacturers. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 15 and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 16.
This year’s HFFTO will feature established and up-and-coming food exhibitors, in-house chefs, and guest chefs, including Amanda Saab, past contestant on “MasterChef” and Jeremy McLellan, a comic hailing from South Carolina.
Exhibitors and dishes include include butter chicken and waffles from Messy’s Sandwiches, who will also be bringing back their nihari sliders; a Unicorn Cronut from The Pastry Shop, and authentic Jamaican halal cuisine from Rose’s Kitchen. There also will be stage shows, including a Cake Walk hosted by comedian Aman Ali, and Yvonne Maffei, author of the popular blog-turned cookbook, “My Halal Kitchen”, plus educational workshops and seminars about the growing halal food industry.
According to a report from Nourish Food Marketing, the Canadian halal food market is estimated to be worth $1 billion, and Canada’s Muslim community is expected to triple by 2031.
