A Pineappleachian Hot Dog? Why Not!
The 13th annual Hot Dog Festival takes place in Huntington, West Virginia, July 29, 2017. It’s always on the last Saturday in July because — as all Road Trips Foodies know — July is National Hot Dog Month.
The Tri-State area (West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky) is home to an unusually large number of hot dog businesses (many are decades-old and family-owned), hence the nosh of choice. There’ll be a hot dog eating contest and a root beer chug.
One of the specialties? A Pineappleachian Dog, of course — toppings are the “icing” on the weiners. Try bacon, coleslaw, baked beans…the possibilities are myriad.
Needless to say there’s a weiner dog race, pooch parade, live entertainment, car show and other sorts of community festival fun.
Proceeds benefit the Children’s Hospital at Cabell-Huntington Hospital.
