Ubud Food Festival Explores Indonesia
The Ubud Food Festival returns to Central Bali May 12, 13 and 14, 2017, with the theme of “Every Flavor is a Story” celebrating Indonesia’s culinary heritage, in which every ingredient, recipe, and culinary tradition tells a story of the archipelago’s history, geography and diverse cultures.
The theme also reflects on the journey from producer to plate; from forging relationships with local growers to fostering awareness of broader ecological and industry trends that are shaping Indonesia’s – and the world’s – culinary landscape.
During the three-day event, visitors will be able to join forums, cooking demonstrations, workshops, special events, food markets, musical performances, and film showings.
Among those slated to attend Ubud in May: Tasia and Gracia Seger who are also known as the “Spice Sisters” who recently won a nationwide cooking contest in Australia; Professor Winarno, an expert on tempe, and the “jungle chef” of Papua – Charles Toto – who will introduce dishes made from the produce and heritage of Indonesia’s easternmost province.
International cooking celebrities expected at UFF are Bo Songvisava and Dylan Jones the leaders of the Bo.lan Restaurant in Bangkok, who will appear in a special “street food event” together with Indonesian cooking legend Will Meyrick at his Ubud eatery, “Hujan Locale.”
Back also in 2017 will be the “Kitchen Stage” presenting Indonesian language cooking demonstration. This year, look for appearances by Made Runatha and Made Januar from MOKSA; Chef Made Lugra from The Ayung Resorts, and Made Surjaya from The Standing Stones.
Ubud Food Festival is a major annual project of the Yayasan Mudra Swari Saraswati, with a vision of enriching the lives of Indonesians through community-building and cultural programs.
