Knott’s Boysenberry Festival
Speaking of genetically modified food: consider the boysenberry. A hybrid of the Loganberry, blackberry, and raspberry, it was created in 1926 by Walter Knott.
He began selling his new fruit at his roadside fruit stand in Buena Park, California, which grew into a restaurant and (fast-forwarding a bunch of years) into Knott’s Berry Farm (said to be America’s first theme park).
In any case, Road Trips Foodies, you too can pay homage to the berry at the annual Boysenberry Festival taking place April 1 through 23, 2017, at Knotts Berry Farm, 8039 Beach Boulevard, Buena Park, California.
The “jam”- packed event features live entertainment, interactive experiences and over 70 boysenberry creations including barbecue, desserts, beverages, and savory treats (boysenberry pizza anyone?).
April 3, 2017 has been officially declared National Boysenberry Day by the City of Buena Park.
