Eating Ebelskiver in Elk Horn, Iowa
Now here’s an eating contest you don’t see every day, Road Trips Foodies.
In fact (if the organizers are correct) it’s the first of its kind, ever.
Yes, an ebelskiver eating competition will be held May 27, 2017, in Elk Horn, Iowa, as part of its annual Tivoli Fest. The timing’s appropriate because ebelskiver are Danish pancake balls, and Tivoli Gardens (the original) are in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The 37th annual Tivoli Fest, set for May 26 through 29, 2017 (Memorial Day Weekend), celebrates the city’s Danish heritage. You’ll find authentic Danish foods and an “Official Iowa Craft Beer” tent.
The ebelskiver contest isn’t for amateurs. The organizers have hired Major League Eating to promote and sanction the event. Professional competitive eaters will compete for a $4,000 prize.
