Florida Strawberry Festival

Florida Strawberry FestivalFor many Road Trips Foodies, strawberry season means early summer. To the folks in and around Plant City, Florida, however, March is the month.

The Florida Strawberry Festival, started in 1930, will be March 2 through 12, 2017, at 303 North Lemon Street, Plant City, Florida.

Why here? More than 10,000 acres of strawberries are planted annually in the local area. (There are some 2,800 farms in Hillsborough County that produce fruit and vegetable crops with an annual value of over $360 million.)

Of course, the strawberry harvest is the reason, but all the fun stuff of a fair is here: carnival rides, entertainment, arts & crafts vendors, livestock shows and all sorts of competitions (including strawberry-stemming).

Then there’s the strawberry shortcake. This year, there are three choices, each made by a different non-profit: East Hillsborough Historical Society, St. Clement Roman Catholic Church, and Turkey Creek Assembly of God.

Don’t miss the strawberry milkshakes, strawberry jam, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and strawberry peanut brittle, not to mention strawberry hamburgers, strawberry pizzas, and strawberry fritters.

Your Road Trips Foodie loves this fest, especially the strawberry stands along the streets leading to the fair (buy a flat or two to take in the car with you).
