Botillo Festival in Spain’s León Province
The Festival de Exaltación del Botillo takes place February 18, 2017, in the town of Bembibre (León province), Spain.
Centered on the town square, it celebrates botillo, a typical cured meat produced in the El Bierzo region, so sampling is encouraged.
This fiesta began 1973 during a procession that is held every seven years known as the Saint’s Outing. Each February since then (the exact date varies as Easter does), it has been traditional for all the restaurants in the region to offer “botillo” on their menus for a week.
All sorts of El Bierzo products, including chestnuts, honey, cheese and wines from the region, also are featured.
