virginia_highland_hearthOpen hearth cooks Pat Willis and Maria Greco will lead cooking demonstrations at Highland, (the home of James Monroe, fifth President of the United States) 2050 James Monroe Parkway, Charlottesville, Virginia.

Participants will learn how to make several different Monroe-era desserts, including buttermilk pie, apple cake, wine-soaked pears, and sweet potato pudding.

While the desserts are cooking, guests will enjoy a guided visit of the Presidential guest house and museum spaces decorated for the holidays. Then, it’s back to hearthside for a candlelight dessert tasting.

Two more After Hours at Highland holiday tours will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (December 14, 2016) and December 17, 2016. Each session is limited to ten guests, and admission is $28.
